EVERY THIRD SATURDAY OF THE MONTH

Have you been wanting to get to know your neighbors better? Get involved in your community? Join us on Saturday, March 21st for our brand new Neighborhood Cafes at Garden Home & West Slope! These lightly-structured drop-in events are intended to help build relationships and foster community resilience through games, conversation, and partnerships with local organizations. Refreshments are provided.

This event will be held mostly in the GHRC Gym

A free family-friendly drop-in event with storytimes, a family reading area, free book giveaways from Garden Home Community Library, arts & crafts provided by the THPRD Nature Mobile, a scavenger hunt in the library, and more. You can also learn how to decrease bird strikes on your windows. In conjunction with this event we also have an interactive bird walk (registration required).

Feathered Friends Fun Day is a collaboration between Garden Home Community Library and Tualatin Hills Parks & Recreation Department (THPRD)'s Garden Home Recreation Center to celebrate birds. It's part of the nationwide Flight Path program. Flight Path is the first campaign in the new Spark of Science@ My Library initiative. With the goal of sparking curiosity about science and creating a deeper understanding of how science can improve human health and the health of our planet, this initiative is a partnership between the STAR Library Education Network and HHMI Tangled Bank Studios.

Celebrate the season with gorgeous tulips from Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm, available in a variety of colors. All proceeds will support Garden Home & West Slope Community Libraries.

TRIMET SERVICE CHANGES

In August, TriMet has proposed a significant service cut on the Line 45, the bus that serves Garden Home. Service would be reduced to only serve the school bell times for Ida B. Wells High School. This would leave the Garden Home neighborhood, along with the library, without regular bus service. The Library Board of Directors has submitted a letter to TriMet, urging them to revaluate the cuts to Line 45.

Cuts are proposed to take affect on August 23. The TriMet Board of Directors will be holding a public listening session on Wednesday, March 18 with a vote on the proposed cuts planned for March 25.

Read to a certified therapy dog in a stress-free environment! 

Sign-up for a 20-minute reading session. 

This program will help improve your child's reading skills and they get to make a new friend by reading aloud to a therapy dog.

The dogs and handlers are from Dove Lewis Portland Area Canine Therapy Teams and Pet Partners®

Paintings of the American Revolution (virtual event)

Garden Home Community Library is excited to be hosting a presentation by art historian and educator Mallory Mortillaro. In celebration of America's Semiquincentennial, we present "Paintings of the American Revolution". 

We all know the story of the Revolutionary War, but how much of our understanding is colored by the way the war
was depicted by artists? Paintings of the American Revolution have been essential in the way that the war was
understood, both at the time of the conflict and for generations after. This lecture will explore well-known paintings
such as Emanuel Leutze’s Washington Crossing the Delaware, John Trumbull’s Declaration of Independence, and
Asher Durand’s The Capture of Major André.

Mortillaro is an art historian and educator. She has ten years of teaching experience and has worked on various art research projects for museums and organizations in the New York metropolitan area. She studied at Drew University. Registration Required.

Neighborhood Forest - Get a free tree for your child

West Slope Community Library

Through March 15

Join us in celebrating Earth Week in participation with Neighborhood Forest's 17th Annual Free Tree Program. Register your child to receive a free tree to plant at home Registration is open through March 15.

• Trees (6–12 inches tall) will arrive around Earth Day (April 22)

• The tree species will be announced in early April.

Those who register will be notified when the trees are ready to pick up. Garden Home and West Slope patrons may register, but trees must be picked up at the West Slope Community Library.

Join us to learn about some of the amazing digital resources that we have access to through our library. Discover Libby for eBooks and audiobooks, Kanopy for streaming video, Mango Languages and LinkedIn Learning to develop new skills, and many more!

This Library program will be held in the Vista Room at Courtyard Village Raleigh Hills and is open to the general public.
