CANCELLED! Winter Tree Walk with Treekeepers of Washington County

  • Garden Home Community Library 7475 Southwest Oleson Road Portland, OR, 97223 (map)

This event has been cancelled. We will reschedule. Stay tuned.

Walk along the Fanno Creek Trail, while identifying and learning about trees on this informational walk with two leaders from Treekeepers of Washington County.

Open to all ages but participants must be able to walk about 2 miles.

Treekeepers of Washington County was formed in 2021 to protect and advocate for existing trees in urban unincorporated Washington County. Tree protections are critical for our county’s environmental and community health, and to increase our ability to adapt to climate change. Washington County is one of the last places in the Portland Metro area that does not have regulations to protect trees in its urban unincorporated area, so we work to build an Urban Forestry Program. We engage the community with informative tree walks, gathering data by inventorying trees, pulling ivy that threatens trees and many other projects.

About our walk leaders: Susan Mates is a naturalist who is passionate about trees. She coordinates Outreach Projects & Communications for Treekeepers of Washington County, and tends to walk with her eyes on the treetops. Barb Stroud is a gardener who believes that trees provide multiple benefits for us, including shade, oxygen, beauty, fruit, habitat and more. She works with Garden Home Gardeners maintaining public gardens in this area.
