Author Maggie Stuckey, the author 11 nonfiction books (published by companies people have actually heard of), will discuss how to write a non-fiction book proposal.
This workshop will include discussion of how the submission process works (ie, what happens to proposals once they arrive at an editor's desk), what editors or agents look for, the elements of the proposal with specifics of each element (this is the bulk of the workshop), resources for keeping up with what's happening in the publishing world (how to strategize who to send proposals to), and lots and lots of Q&A.
This is not a lightweight class. It works best for people who, whether published or aspiring, are nonetheless serious about their project. The workshop covers a lot of information, and participants need to come ready to fully engage. Be aware that this workshop is NOT intended to inform those interested in self publishing: Stuckey’s personal background is with traditional, royalty-based publishing, and this mode is the focus of this workshop.
